Education Courses Commencing 2026/27
Expressions of interest are invited from General Practice Nurses who are interested, and are able to commit to attend the courses below.
Pending funding being made available, a limited number of places will be allocated to enable primary care nurses to undertake these courses.
Semester 1
Short Courses
General Practice Nursing (Advanced Certificate / Postgraduate Certificate)
Duration: 2 semesters over 1 academic year, 1 day per week each semester (12 academic days and 12 practice-based learning).
Teaching is blend of face-to-face and online.
Assessment: Exam and coursework
Non-Medical Prescribing (Nurse and Midwife Prescribing V300)
Duration: 2 semesters over 1 academic year, approximately 72 hours (12 days) teaching and 90 hours practice based learning across both semesters.
Assessment: Exam and coursework
The student will require a Practice Assessor
Stand Alone Modules
Asthma Diploma Level 5 [(OCN)NI accredited]
Duration: 12-week course, 3 classroom days (2 face-to-face, 1 online),
Assessment: 1 assessment day & portfolio submission
Barrett McGrath EMS – Education Mentoring Services
COPD Diploma [(OCN)NI accredited]
Duration: 12-week course, 3 classroom days (2 face-to-face, 1 online),
Assessment: 1 assessment day & completion of workbooks

Semester 2
Stand Alone Modules
(Breast and) Cervical Screening, Stand Alone Module
Duration: One semester, 6 full learning days over 12 weeks
Assessment: Clinical assessment and completion of 20 cervical screening consultations,
and written assignment (3000 words)
Diabetes Management in Primary Care, Credit Bearing module
Duration: Four online 3hour lectures, two face-to-face 3hour seminars,
Assessment: 100% coursework assessment

If selecting more than one course, please list your course preferences in order of priority.
To ensure equitable access, each nurse will be offered one course opportunity in 2026/27.
Please note, successful applicants and their line manager will be asked to complete an Impact on Practice Outcomes Evaluation form 6 months after completion of the course. This will help inform future selection of commissioned courses.
