On 5 July 2024, the Department of Health launched a 12-week public consultation seeking views on policy proposals that would underpin a new health protection legislative framework for Northern Ireland. The new Public Health Bill will replace the current legislation, the Public Health Act (Northern Ireland) 1967. GPNI will be hosting a webinar for GPs on the consultation which will be led by the Department’s Public Health Protection Legislation Team (HPLB). HPLB will provide an update on the consultation’s policy proposals which will impact Registered Medical Practitioners. We would encourage colleagues to register and attend to understand more about the consultation and engage to feed back any responses or concerns they had regarding these proposals. This consultation opened on the 5th of July and has been extended by two weeks until the 14th October 2024.
