GPs Prof Trisha Greenhalgh and Rebecca Payne, and researchers Francesca Dakin will present a practical and interactive session, focusing on safety, training and workforce in this new era of General Practice: Covid-19 brought perhaps the most dramatic shift in general practice since the dawn of the NHS, with hundreds of millions of appointments shifting to the telephone and a growing number of digital tools being offered to practices. The Remote by Default research project, led by GP Prof Trisha Greenhalgh and funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research has been studying practices across Wales, Scotland and England as they’ve implemented new forms of consulting with patients, learning from what works and what doesn’t, and examining how these changes impact on safety, quality, patients and the practice team. They have come up with practical recommendations to enhance training so that staff are equipped and supported to deliver care in the modern era, and identified important steps which can be taken to make remote care safer.
