This session will focus on the Mental Capacity Act (Northern Ireland) 2016 and the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986. Steph Kerr (Service Manager, Mental Capacity Act and Approved Social Work Services, Belfast HSC Trust) and Phil Hughes (Professional Advisor on MCA to the Department of Health) will present. With phased implementation of the Mental Capacity Act in Northern Ireland, the Mental Health Order remains in place for patients who require a psychiatric admission. This session will provide a recap on the Mental Capacity Act, updates and challenges – including in relation to interface with the Mental Health Order. Case examples will be shared and a Q&A opportunity will also be provided.
