Cruse offer “bereavement support using counselling skills”. Our Bereavement Volunteers provide a safe space for clients to explore their grief, and develop skills to manage their emotions.

We provide a mental health service, from trained volunteers. We offer bereavement support but cannot digress into other mental health conditions. Our services are designed to support those in the Tier 1 / 2 mental health needs. If someone is in crisis (i.e. suicidal) our service is not appropriate for them.

The services we provide to adults over the age of 18 are as follows;

*One to One Support – This consists of six one to one meetings with one of our Bereavement volunteers and can be held in person, over the phone and via zoom depending on clients preference.

*Understanding Your Bereavement – This is a one off group support session run by our trained Bereavement Volunteers. It will explore the feelings and emotions around Bereavement and normalise some of the emotions and thoughts you may be going through.

The session can be attended in person at the clients local office or they can attend online via zoom – The zoom session will be private in that you will be muted and never placed on screen.

I would recommend that everyone attend an Understanding Your Bereavement session while waiting for one to one support – The session has been designed to offer immediate support and participants have told us it brought some immediate peace to how they were feeling.

For Children and Young people under the age of 18; Our CYP team provide one to one support in person for all Under 18’s and can offer zoom support for those over 13 years old. We also run activity groups for young people to gather together.

In order to provide the best possible support for children and young people our group events are guided by our youth advisory committee. This committee consists of young people who have experienced bereavement and received support from Cruse and help guide us in what is helpful for us to address and understand when working with their peers.

Cruse also provide a prisons project for those bereavement in prison, and a major incident response team.
